My Writing Cave
I find the place you write is incredibly important. I have tried over the last nine years to write in various settings, but I think having one place to focus my energy in, to really get the creativity flowing, is what works best for me.
I’m lucky enough to have been able to convert a spare bedroom in my house to my ‘writing cave,’ and so I have transformed it into a space to create. It’s small, but it’s just right for me. With a large ‘L’ shaped wooden desk and another rectangular desk coming off from that, I have ample space for my computer, files, folders, excess books, and everything I could possibly need for my processes.
I have a filing cabinet underneath the desk extension and two built-in closets packed to the brim with paperbacks and swag. Honestly, what more could an established author ask for?
It’s the place I feel most at home when writing. It’s the place I spend most of my time. And it’s the place I create all the lives of the characters floating around in my brain. I’ve filled the space with color from three living plants that sit on my desk by the large window, which gives me a feel of the outdoors.
To my left is a shelf holding all the books I have published, giving me that push I need when I’m feeling like I am struggling. Just a simple reminder of how far I have come. And underneath my desk, directly at my feet, is a plush bed for my co-worker Bella. She has been with me on this journey since it began, always there for me when I need her. She might be a dog, but she is my biggest encourager. And I love her for it.
I’m so lucky to be able to have a space like this to call my own. It’s cozy, but it is also where I can lock myself away and let the inspiration hit me. And I have plenty more stories to come, so hold on tight while I lock myself away in my writing cave!
